Chief Loftus is a 25 plus year veteran of the fire service. Before coming to Caroline County in 2012, he served as Public Safety Director for Accomack County, Virginia since 2003, where he led a system of over 700 volunteer and career fire and EMS personnel.
He entered the fire service with Fairmont Volunteer Fire Department in Syracuse, New York. Chief Loftus served from 1988-1994 attaining the rank of Fire/Rescue Lieutenant. His first career position was with the Garner Fire Department in Garner, North Carolina as a Firefighter First Class. In 1998, he was hired by the Wake County, NC Public Safety Fire/Rescue Division where he rose from Training Officer to Shift Supervisor.
He holds numerous professional certifications including Executive Fire Officer (EFO), Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFOD) and Certified Emergency Manager (CEM).
Chief Loftus earned a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science: Fire Administration from the
University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of New York College at Cortland, and a Masters of Education from the University of Virginia.
